A boom pump is a truck with a folding arm (boom) that carries the concrete line through the air and drops the mix exactly where the crew needs it. It is the usual choice for second-story decks, commercial slabs, tilt walls, foundations behind a house and any pour where ready-mix trucks cannot get close. Boom pumps set up on outriggers, so the operator needs a firm, level spot and room to swing the boom away from power lines.
Boom pumps cost more per hour than a line pump, but they can place more yards per hour with fewer workers dragging hose, which often makes them cheaper on larger pours.
Good fit for
- Commercial and multi-family slabs
- Second-story decks and elevated pours
- Foundations and pads behind houses or fences
- Walls, columns and tilt-wall panels
- Pours of roughly 30+ yards where speed matters
